Super NEAT study (lol) in the journal Obesity that James Barnes.krieger reviewed this past month in his research review. It looked at how resistance training impacts NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis) . . NEAT refers to the calories you burn throughout the day doing things other than formal exercise (fidgeting walking up the stairs etc). NEAT tends to go down after weight loss and this is thought to be due to INCREASED muscle work efficiency (your muscles burn less calories performing the same amount of work) . . However this study showed that 12 weeks of resistance training DECREASED muscle work efficiency at low intensities (the intensity of activities of daily living). This decrease in muscle efficiency may offset the decrease in NEAT following weight loss . . No wonder people who lose weight and keep it off tend to engage in resistance training! . . . If youre interested in nutrition and exercise research but havent got the time to devote or dont have the access to scientific journals I highly recommend taking a look at James Barnes.krieger s monthly research review at Weightology.net – I have no affiliation with him and have never met him- Im just a fan of his work . . . . #health #healthy #fitness #bodybuilding #nutrition #dietetics #dietitian #diet #weightology #jameskrieger #food #neat #resistancetraining #healthyfoods #nutritionresearch #fit #powerlifting #exercise #nonexerciseactivitythermogenesis #weight #calories #fatburning #fatloss #weightloss #diets #muscle #stubbornfat #nutrition #weightlifting
