Let’s talk about Carbs I hear of people ‘cutting carbs’ ‘cutting sugar’ and all other rubbish… even hears of GPs recommending it as a blankey approach to weight management….. First of all Carbs they are in all the good stuff; biscuits breads chocolate sweetscereal etc… so they taste bloody nice! Secondly glucose is our body’s preferred source of energy; especially for the brain that’s why we get a bit cranky and light headed if we dont have our carbs… so there is just two reasons to eat carbohydrates “So why do people cut them out and lose weight?” Because we usually eat too much of them (along with dietary fats) which can put us into a calorie surplus and cause weight gain. If we cut them out we lower our calories and lose weight because of the calorie reduction… not because of the carbs. “So I Need to cut carbs to lose weight?” No you need to cut your caloric intake! Usually peoples portions are too big they pick at food mindlessly or arent aware of the calories in some foods; All of which add to weight gain! If we manage these then we can still eat the yummy carbs in moderation and be at a healthy weight. It’s not carbs fault its not any foods fault its not because of insulin or any other spouted nonsense… weight management is a very very complex issue! it is down to the amount of food we eat… that is the issue! The blame is on us!.. not some inanimate macronutrient we’ve eaten for centuries!
