Post cheat meal/cheat week check. The last 7 days have been a complete write off in terms of nutritional value. But I find it doesn’t affect me as anywhere near as much since I have been doing intermittent fasting for the past 6months on a beginners level and lost about 7kg from 87- 80kg. I do no cardio just weights 3-5x per week. Here’s is what I eat during 80-90% of my week (10-20% is cheat meals): breakfast low carb protein shake with water then nothing for 6 hours. 1pm I have chicken with brown rice and mixed Veges I have this again at 5pm prior to my workout 8-9pm post workout I have a protein shake and dinner which is usually high protein with either steak chicken or salmon and moderate carbs and Veges. I have never been one to measure my daily caloric intake but will do this in a couple weeks as I slowly increase my intermittent fasting game. Ive beaten this topic to death but its still the number one question I get DMs about lol so here goes again… After anywhere from 6-9 days (on average) of following a low carb or no carb style diet your muscle glycogen(carbs stored in muscle) depletes and you will lose water inside the muscle. Resulting in an empty flat look (not necessarily a bad thing) but once glycogen is gone if you train that bodypart again you are breaking down your muscle tissue to fuel the workout and you’ll actually lose muscle faster (thats the bad part lol). Also after about 5 days low carb (mostly due to low calorie as well) your t4 (inactive thyroid) stops converting to t3(active thryroid) therefore slowing down your metabolism… When you cheat your thyroid ramps again for a few days until this happens again. Lastly LEPTIN leptin is a hormone that controls hunger and feelings of satiety. Super NEAT study (lol) in the journal Obesity that James Barnes.krieger reviewed this past month in his research review. It looked at how resistance training impacts NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis) . . NEAT refers to the calories you burn throughout the day doing things other than formal exercise (fidgeting walking up the stairs etc). NEAT tends to go down after weight loss and this is thought to be due to INCREASED muscle work efficiency (your muscles burn less calories performing the same amount of work) . . However this study showed that 12 weeks of resistance training DECREASED muscle work efficiency at low intensities (the intensity of activities of daily living). Can not believe that I have been on this journey for a year now and I have to say it was one of the best decisions of my life. Starting Keto went against everything I was taught about nutrition but after trying everything else and feeling hopeless I said its worth the risk.
